Painting
Karen Murphy is a contemporary landscape painter who was born in Boston, MA and grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts. She now resides in Riverside, Rhode Island where she lives and works. For Karen, creating art has been a passion for as long as she can remember, and she spent most of her teenage years learning the classical methods of drawing and painting.
“Water is part of my daily consciousness. Water is life, and beauty and we are all connected to it, no matter where we live. I’ve been painting the ocean for many years — but during the pandemic I became aware of the therapeutic effect of water on one’s emotions —and I wanted to explore it more as a subject.
I enjoy the abstract nature of the shapes, forms, and colors that create harmonious rhythms on the water. Also, the role light plays, and how it can change the mood instantly. It’s all very meditative. I feel like I have so much more to explore with this body of work, and I’m very much looking forward to painting much more of it.”
